This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at ClearSky Power, a company dedicated to bringing solar energy solutions to communities in need. The experience has been enlightening and transformative, offering me the chance to expand my skills and learn more about the dynamic field of renewable energy.
One of the highlights of my internship was the chance to apply and enhance my previous website design skills, as I was excited to contribute to ClearSky Power's digital presence. My task was to revamp the company's website, making it more professional, modern, and aligned with industry standards. This project allowed me to explore new design trends and improve the site's functionality, ensuring it effectively communicated the company's mission and services. I first focused on improving the site's navigation to create a more intuitive and engaging experience for visitors. I researched leading websites in the renewable energy sector to identify key design elements that were both visually appealing and functional. I then applied these insights to ClearSky Power's website, modernizing the layout. This experience not only honed my technical skills but also taught me the importance of aligning design with business goals to create a more effective digital presence.
Our weekly Monday morning meetings at 7:30 a.m. were a vital part of my learning experience. These sessions provided deep insights into the business side of solar panels, emphasizing the importance of strategic location selection for installations. It was fascinating to learn how critical it is to find areas that not only benefit from solar energy but also ensure that the installations positively impact the surrounding community. Two solar installations that particularly captivated me were those at Barwaaqo University and Abaarso School. ClearSky Power’s efforts to equip schools in Somaliland with solar panels resonate deeply with me, as, being a student myself, I can readily appreciate the transformative impact these installations have on educational environments. This holistic approach reinforced my understanding of sustainability, highlighting the need for careful planning and community engagement in renewable energy projects.
A unique aspect of my internship was the opportunity to work with collaborators from Southeast Asia, adding a rich cross-cultural dimension to my experience. This exposure to diverse perspectives broadened my understanding of how solar energy solutions can be adapted to different regions and communities. The collaborative spirit of the team, despite our geographical distances, was inspiring and underscored the global nature of the renewable energy movement.
In addition to web design, I delved into the world of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms, an area that was relatively new to me. Mr. Kennedy asked me to look into this topic in order to better manage and understand customer relationships by knowing in what part of the process buyers lose interest and how far into the buying process the average client makes it. I conducted extensive research on CRM systems like Zoho and ClickUp to determine which would best serve ClearSky Power's needs. My analysis revealed that ClickUp's visual pipeline and collaboration features made it a strong contender for enhancing broader productivity within the company. Its customization options also made it adaptable to the specific needs of ClearSky Power, providing a flexible solution for managing projects and customer interactions.
On the other hand, Zoho CRM offered a more rigid structure focused on maintaining customer pipelines. While Zoho's strength lay in its straightforward approach to tracking customer relationships, the flexibility and comprehensive features of ClickUp made it a more appealing choice for the company's overall workflow and collaboration needs.
Overall, my internship at ClearSky Power has been an invaluable learning experience. It has allowed me to sharpen my technical skills, gain practical knowledge about the renewable energy sector, and understand the intricate balance between technology and community impact. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a company that is making a difference in the world and to be part of a team that values innovation and sustainability.
As I look back on this summer, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment and excitement for the future. This experience has not only prepared me for future challenges but also inspired me to continue exploring ways to integrate technology with environmental sustainability. I am eager to see where this journey takes me next and how I can continue to make a positive impact in the world of renewable energy.
Thank you, Mr. Kennedy, for this amazing opportunity to learn about your company’s work, and thank you, Mr. Schlenker, for making it possible. I am so grateful to have been given this opportunity.
