Students enjoyed another “intercambio” during their morning classes. They got to speak with their Spanish counterparts, learning and teaching each other while having a blast. For the evening activity, we went back to the historic district for a taller de paella (paella workshop)! First, they sliced, cut, and diced. They then took turns manning the enormous paella stove (think giant flattened wok). Ingredients included: chicken, sausage, peppers, onions, leeks, peas, and of course, rice. Students also cut up fruit for our very own alcohol-free Sangria. Legend has it that the word paella has its origins in a visit by the queen to southern Spain. The locals didn’t have the fixings for a traditional feast, so they gathered what they could and made a meal “para ella” (for her). The kids had an awesome time playing chef, and the meal turned out great (we personally vouch for how delicious it was!).
